Cleanliness, Tranquility

AP Language and Composition

Ashley

Today I possessed the virtue of cleanliness. I brushed my teeth three times, I wore body antiperspirant, I clipped my toe nails, I washed my hair with shampoo and conditioner, and washed the sheets on my bed.

I didn’t have the virtue of tranquility today because I was upset over a trivial matter. I found out that I had made a 100 on a test when it was possible to make a 105. Immediately after hearing my score I was furious.

Frugality, Moderation

I arranged for boxes to be saved at school so I could reuse them. I reused them to place in every classroom, so the students of my school and I can recycle. This was helpful and will benefit everyone in the school because it is bettering our world; I upheld the virtue of frugality by doing this.

During the off-season, when I’m not training for Cross Country, I still need to eat well and stay healthy. I do not drink soft drinks or eat McDonalds, etc. I can eat some things that aren’t exactly healthy but only in moderation. For example, sausage, sausage is extremely greasy and has a lot of cholesterol. Today I ate three pieces of sausage! I did not carry the virtue of moderation because I ate too much sausage.

Justice, Order

I upheld the virtue of justice today at school. I gave someone some money that they needed in order to get their lunch. This person had always been well in math and last year when I asked them for help, they told me they didn’t have time. Instead of being selfish when they asked for money, I upheld the virtue of justice, and gave them five dollars.

When I arrived home I didn’t have the virtue of order because I took time to do chores. I washed dishes, washed clothes, and vacuumed. I thought I would have time to take a shower and do my homework; but as I finished my homework, I realized I had ran out of time it was already twelve! I wasn’t organized and I didn’t arrange my tasks with enough time to complete them all.

Silence, Frugality

Ashley Gaines

Today I possessed the virtue of silence; I came home and my little sister was asleep, and I stayed quiet the entire time she was asleep.

During the time my sister was asleep, I was watching television instead of doing homework and chores. Because I wasted this valuable time I did not uphold the virtue of frugality.

Resolution, Moderation

AP Language and Composition

Ashley

This morning I occupied the virtue of resolution. I had wrote myself a note that said to do at least three sets of cry babies, ten pushups, tone my arms, and additional sit ups. When I awoke this morning I got started and completed my task. I set a goal that was both achievable and challenging for my body, and I performed it.

I did not however, have the virtue of moderation. My doctor told me not to perform any physical activity besides walking on my ankle because I have injured it. I excessively practiced soccer today; I did not possess the virtue of moderation because I didn’t walk on my ankle in moderation.

Sincerity, Temperance

While at a party tonight, my friend Mitch told me that his father had injured his back. Mitch told me how the injury happened, how long his father would have to be bed-rest, and about all the bills they had to pay. After hearing his touching story I told Mitch that I was truly sorry for all that happened to his family and that I wished the best for them in the future. I displayed the virtue of sincerity because I told Mitch how I truly felt about obligations that had happened in his life.

Earlier today I didn’t possess the virtue of temperance. After taking a practice SAT for four and a half hours, as soon as I allowed to leave I indulged in chicken tenders, fries, ranch, fish, and some soup. Afterwards, I went to the movies and ate tons of popcorn! Later, I went out to eat Japanese with my friend Anna; my stomach was so full I almost couldn’t button my jeans! I didn’t have the virtue of temperance because I ate beyond normal and just to eat.

Chastity, Frugality

AP Language and Composition

Ashley

I stayed pure to my beliefs and values today, by inviting a new student to my lunch table with my friends and I. I could’ve easily judged this person by their clothes or what others had rumored about them; but I offered a smile and seat instead. I have always tried to include everyone in anything I do because I wouldn’t want to be left out myself. I exhibited the virtue of chastity by staying true and pure to my beliefs.

When I arrived home, however, I didn’t have the virtue of frugality. It was a raining Friday; I did not receive a lot of sleep this past week. I could’ve done homework; cleaned the house, completed cardio workouts, or cooked dinner. I chose to sleep, which wasted time that I could’ve been completing those tasks, which would benefit both my family and myself.

Industry, Humility

AP Language and Composition

Ashley

At school today I had the virtue of industry I used my time wisely and completed my homework at school during empower hour. Instead of having an hour of lunch to sit and talk to my friends, I worked on my AP Language and Composition project, I studied for my U.S. History test, I completed my notebook for AVID, I studied SAT vocabulary words, and attended a club meeting for Do Something. I didn’t waste my valuable time at lunch to socialize.

Later, when my sister was jumping on her bed and she fell, I laughed at her. I did not exhibit the virtue of humility because I was not humble or respectful when she fell on her bed.

Cleanliness, Tranquility

AP Language and Composition

Ashley

I upheld the virtue of cleanliness today. When I got home from school I took a shower, I washed my clothes, folded those clothes, washed dishes, vacuumed my room, made my bed, took out the trash, swept the floor, mopped the floor, and dusted the living room.

However, I did not exhibit the virtue of tranquility. This morning on the way to school, my mom’s car wouldn’t crank! I had to be at school to study for an important test in U.S. History; we did not arrive at the school at the time I had wished to. I was angry upon arriving at school late and didn’t want to speak to my mother.
